If you don't want to spend money on a virtual desktop to improve the visual quality of your games with Pico 4 VR , the other option is to use Stream Assistant. From there, you can select bit rates and resolutions suitable for a great image. We warn you that you'll need a powerful PC to achieve this.
Let's get started!
1. Download Stream Assistant
The first thing you'll need to do is download Stream Assistant, which you can do from the Pico website. This streaming assistant comes with a suite of software that makes it possible to stream PC games to Stream VR with your headset.
2. Connect the glasses via USB cable
Now you'll need to connect the Pico 4 headset to your PC, which you can do via a USB cable . It's recommended to connect a USB-C cable to at least a USB 3.0 port.
Once both are connected, select USB, you must double-click on the program to be in.
Once there, you will be able to see the maximum resolution your Pico 4 configuration reaches, that is, in HD mode, at 90 Hz.
As you can see, you won't be able to improve this resolution (in theory) unless you do the following in Stream Assistant:
- Click on properties and from there open the location, which is where the stream assistant files are.
- Find the driver folder, inside which you'll find Bing Win 64, where you'll want to select RVR plugins. Open it and you'll find all the options you have for modifying Pico's software.
- The maximum bitrate it comes with is 5 and 6 (101 MB), which is a fairly limited bitrate for those looking for maximum game visibility. So, what you need to do is increase the bitrate to 100,000 and you'll get 202 MB. If your computer doesn't support 70,000 MB, you'll get good image quality. This is equivalent to what's used on the Quest.
- From here you can also adjust saturation, contrast, and brightness if you wish, so you can fine-tune the image to what you want. Saturation at 110 works very well.
- Once you've modified everything you want, you'll need to save the changes. Save the file to your desktop and then add it to the folder where the original is located.
- Now go to VR style to increase the resolution. You'll notice that you can now increase the resolution beyond what was originally allowed. You can increase it from 2100 to 3128 by 3128.
- Finally, you exit Destination VR and re-enter to appreciate all the changes.
Now enjoy better visual quality of Pico 4 on PC without having to spend money on a virtual desktop.
