¿Cómo saber el IMEI de tu celular y qué utilidad tiene?

The IMEI is a code that all Android phones have, regardless of their brand. This makes them unique and allows them to be identified, as each device has a unique code.

If your phone model supports two terminals, i.e., it is a dual model, your phone will have 2 IMEIs.

There are several ways to locate the IMEI of an Android phone. In this article, we explain what they are and how they are used.

How to locate the IMEI of your cell phone?

  1. Locate the IMEI on the cell phone box

If your phone is new, the easiest way to find its IMEI is to look for it on the phone's packaging. It's usually located on the back of the box. It's a 15-digit code identified by the word IMEI. It may have two IMEIs if it's a dual-SIM model, meaning it has two SIM slots (SIM1 and SIM2).

  1. Under the battery

The code is also most likely located under the removable battery on most Android phone models. So, simply lifting the battery and locating the word IMEI should be enough.

  1. Dialing in the call zone *#06#

If your phone is already working and you don't have the cell phone box on hand, the easiest way to find out its IMEI is by dialing *#06# in the call area. You will immediately know its IMEI.

  1. Through “settings”

You can go directly to the IMEI by selecting “about phone” in the phone settings, then “all specifications”, and finally selecting “status”, and the IMEI will appear there.

In addition to the IMEI, you can see other phone specifications such as battery status and level, SIM specifications (both SIMs if it's dual), model and hardware, IMEI (of both slots if it's dual), IP address, MAC address, Bluetooth address, and uptime.

If you can't find the IMEI using this method, simply go to your phone's settings and type "IMEI" in the search box. It will immediately appear, and tapping on it will take you to find it.

What is the use of the IMEI?

The IMEI can have several uses, some of which are, for example:

  • Collect warranty from the manufacturer, which is useful when we buy a defective cell phone.
  • They also ask for it to sign us up for a beta program in which we want to participate to test new software.
  • This is the code you'll be asked to use to locate your phone in case of theft, and even to block it if you wish.
  • It's also useful to get your cell phone certified in Chile if you purchased it abroad. This way, you can use it legally within the country.
