Once you purchase your Oculus Quest 2 and learn the basic functions of these VR headsets, you'll love learning tricks and secrets that will enhance your immersive experience.
Here are some shortcuts that aren't always mentioned and aren't as popular because they're part of Meta's list of experimental features . These are features that aren't actively part of the software, but that you can experiment with by enabling them.
-
Shortcut to take photos
Quick Photo Access is a feature that allows you to take a photo without having to pause your game. All you have to do is hold down the Oculus button with your right hand and quickly tap the trigger.
-
Spatial perception
There's an experimental feature that works for mobile guardians, introduced recently, called "Spatial Awareness." It's especially useful for those with children or pets indoors, who could wander into your play area and cause an incident.
Basically what it does is draw the silhouette of whoever crosses your Oculos so you can see it and dodge it.
-
Shortcut for outdoor cameras
It's a very useful feature when you're using your Oculus Quest and need to grab something from the outside world, whether it's your phone or a drink of water, without lifting your VR headset.
Just tap on either side of Quest to activate the exterior cameras, and you'll see that gray screen that usually appears when you're setting up your Guardian.
-
Notifications from your phone on Quest
Viewing notifications from your phone inside the Quest is possible for both iOS and Android. This way, you can stay up-to-date with what's happening without having to take off your headset every time.
To activate this feature, go to the menu, select "devices," and select "phone notifications." When setting it up, you can choose which notifications will be displayed on the Quest and which ones won't.
-
Calibration of controls
For those who occasionally struggle with controls, this feature is a great one to have.
In the experimental functions you will find several tools at your disposal that will serve to calibrate the controls in two specific areas:
- Analog stick angle
- Analog stick range and dead zone
From there, it is possible to resolve almost all controller issues without having to send the controllers to Meta or purchase new ones.
-
Multitasking function
When you activate this feature, it will ask you to restart your Quest, and once you do, you will see that it is possible to have up to 3 windows open simultaneously.
For example, you can watch a YouTube video while browsing Instagram, while visiting the Oculus store. You control the size of each window completely.
Did you know any of these tricks when using Oculus Quest 2?
The gaming world is very deep and diving into it is always an exciting adventure.
